Modeling For KnotNormalPinup
I want to model for KNP, How do I do that?

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for models that are KnotNormal at heart. Every age, shape, height, race, orientation, ect., is welcome! We only care about what makes you unique. You must live near (or be able to travel to) Indianapolis in order to be eligible but it's otherwise wide open. Our focus is really on what makes you KnotNormal.

I was asked to model for KNP or I want to be a model for KNP. Now What?
KnotNormal hosts Open Casting Calls once every month or two. We announce the dates on our site and our Facebook page. You can attend one of these or schedule a private casting call with Atriphene by using the contact form on this page.

Individual Shoot Vs. Casting Call?
There are two ways to do your first shoot for KNP. You can either come to one of our many Open Shoots, or you can book a private Individual Shoot. Decide which type of shoot suits you best, especially if you are new to modeling. Just remember, it's about having fun and showing off what makes you unique, no matter what type of shoot you choose. You MUST have Photo ID if this is your first shoot with KNP. If this is your first shoot, we will only do one outfit so come dressed and ready to go.
An Open Shoot is just that: open to everyone. There are usually a few people there waiting their turn to shoot, and usually at least one Active Model. The room is full and there are lots of people talking and milling about the room while you shoot. Some people will shoot together and everyone will have at least a few shots taken of them solo, but because of the number of people shooting in one day, this is a day for minimal props and only a single outfit. She will give you as much or as little direction as you need to complete the shoot. This will give her an idea of how well you can work together, how you react to the camera and how photogenic you are. Sometimes even the prettiest of people do not photograph well, so this is a necessary step. We use these photos as a sort of guide to see if we can do justice to your particular style. No one person gets a lot of images taken and this could be considered a "mini-shoot". This type of shoot may last all afternoon with people popping in and out all day.
An Individual Shoot is different; it's just you and the photographer (and your friend, if you brought one). You should bring 2-4 outfits with you and you are strongly encouraged to bring props, banners and even furniture to this type of shoot to really bring out your special personality. This is several full on photoshoots in a row and tends to take about 30-45 mins per outfit, generally. Bring drinks, friends, props, music, whatever it takes to make you comfortable. The more comfy you are, the better your pics will be. Individual shoots are the heart of KNP and it is up to YOU, the model to book your individual shoots. You must book (and attend!) at least one per year to remain an Active Model.

Where is the studio?
The studio is located at:
1531 Union St.
Indianapolis, Indiana
46225
There is a map on this page that you can click on and get directions from wherever you are. It is very close to downtown Indy, in a residential neighborhood, across from a big church.

Is there going to be Hair/Makeup at the shoot?
NO. You should come prepared with your hair, makeup and outfit ready. This is about expressing you and who can do that better?

What should I wear?
Whatever makes you feel the most comfortable and confident. If it makes you feel more YOU, then go for it. Whatever your personal style is, we want it! If it's colorful, creative and confident then your photos will be too. Nothing is off limits from cosplay to steampunk, casual to conservative, from jeans to corsets and bustles. We do not want you to fit a mold, we want to photograph what makes you unique.

What do I bring to an Open Shoot?
Bring your fabulous personality and photo ID. You can also bring CDs or a friend...Heck, bring two friends! We want you to feel good because the happier you are, the better your photos turn out. If you need drinks, snacks or sunscreen, please feel free to bring them as well.

How do I find out if I've been accepted to model on KNP?
The photos from your screen test will be looked over, and the best will be selected for partial editing. Of those, only one will be chosen and fully processed. This final image will be posted to the KNP Facebook page in one of three albums. If your photo is posted in the 'KnotNormalGirls' or 'KnotNormalBoys' folder, then CONGRATULATIONS! You are now a KNP Model! Schedule your next photoshoot so that you can fill up your gallery with gorgeous pictures.

My photo wasn't posted in the KNB or KNG album. Where is it?
Your photo might be in the 'Casting Call' album on our Facebook page. If so, then you didn't make it this time around. Perhaps we have a lot of goths or not enough boys or some other issue that will resolve itself with time. Perhaps your look wasn't defined enough or maybe we were all just having an off day. It happens to all of us. Come back, try again. Just because we don't select you the first time does not mean we aren't interested in shooting you at some point.

Most of all, don't take it personally. It doesn't mean that you aren't unique or beautiful; Only that you aren't right for this project RIGHT NOW. This site is one person's vision of modern alternative pinup but there are many other sites and photographers out there that you might be PERFECT for. If we don't select you, we prefer to pass your photo on to other photographers who might and the Casting Call album is a great way to share those photos with them. Keep looking, keep smiling and you will find the right place for you. (Although we hope it's here with us!)

How long until I see my photo?
Be patient and try to remember that there is only one person behind the scenes at KNP. How long it takes to process your photo depends on a lot of factors, such as what other things need to be done for KNP to function including but not limited to maintaining the site and the Facebook page, processing payments, paperwork, other shoots, columns and of course, a social life! Some screen tests have come back the same day while others took as long as a month. The average wait is about a week.

Is this going to cost me anything? Am I getting paid?
No! It costs NOTHING to model for KNP, but we also do not offer direct payment. In legal terms, we do a modified Time For Prints deal wherein a majority of prints are substituted for backend royalties/profit-sharing (future income). In exchange, we give you a free lifetime membership to the site ($150 value) so that you can view your images, and the profits from items with your image on them, for as long as you are an active model*. For every set you shoot, you get a beautiful image of you! Shoot 10 sets, get 10 pics, it's that simple.
For example, each photoset that we shoot, we use the best 5 images**. One image is posted to Facebook and you may use it any way that you like as long as you don't remove the watermark. Post it to your Facebook, Twitter, whatever you like. This image is yours, but the other four belong to KNP. All 5 images are posted to the Members Only portion of the site and you may NOT share them on the internet***. You are welcome to print these images for a physical portfolio however.
These images may be used to create merchandise for KNP. If so, the item is marked up 10% from what we pay to have it made and that entire 10% goes directly to the model. Also, our Star Models are tipped for individual shoots based on their participation, so there is potential for fiscal gain if you continue to model for KNP.
*Model must be Active level. Membership will be revoked if you share your account or use it to show the site to non-members.
**More than 5 images might be used in total. This is just an example.
***Sharing Members Only images on the Internet will cause you to lose all benefits, including membership and 10% program.

I still have a question or I want to discuss my photo. What now?
Use the contact form on this page to get a hold of us and we'll do our best to take care of your issue in a timely manner.
